Monthly Meetings

 Oxnard Site:
Driffill Elementary School, 910 S. "E" St.  Oxnard, CA 93030

Rio Site:
Rio Real Elementary School, 1140 Kenny St.,  Oxnard, CA 93036

May 31 - Dia de las Madres (Mexican Mother's Day) -in Oxnard and Rio
We celebrate the hard working mothers in the community. Children make crafts and write poems to share with their moms.  

June 28 - only at the Oxnard site*

July - Food distribution will be held at the MICOP parking lot (520 W. 5th St., Oxnard, CA)

August 16 - Back to School Backpack Drive - only at the Oxnard site*
MICOP collects hundreds of backpacks and school supplies to distribute to the Mixtec children to prepare them for a successful school year. We ask the Ventura County community to help us supply over 500 children with new backpacks and school supplies. Please contact us if you or your organization would like to start a backpack drive. 

September 27 - at both Oxnard & El Rio  sites*

October 25 - Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) - at both Oxnard & El Rio  sites*
Each year MICOP has altars in various places throughout the county. Please check with us to see where you can view the altars this year. Rio Real Elementary School makes an altar on the meeting day. Please come to see the beautiful work!  

November 22 - Thanksgiving Celebration  - only at the Oxnard site*

December 13 - Fiesta Navideña - at both Oxnard & El Rio  sites*

Our grand end of year party for the Mixtec community! Our celebration includes lots of children's crafts, music, dancing and refreshments.

We have many great volunteer opportunities for adults as well as children.  You can help us:

  •  pack food and help set up at our monthly meetings
  •  work with children at our monthly meetings
  •  solicit new members, volunteers, and community donors
  •  help in the office with database entry
  •  tutor adults in ESL or work in our basic Spanish literacy program

We welcome monetary donations to help Ventura County's indigenous Oaxacan community achieve self-sufficiency.

MICOP is a proud collaborator with Ventura County Together. VC Together is a group of local organizations providing direct assitance to meet the basics needs: Food, Health, Shelter, and the 2-1-1 information and referral telephone helpline that connects callers to services such as food pantries, counseling and housing assistance. MICOP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, and all donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by current IRS requirements.
Please consider donating dried pinto beans, white rice, Maseca (a specific brand of corn flour), vegetable oil and disposable diapers. MICOP provides as many of these items as funding allows, yet we still fall short on the great need the families have each month. We appreciate your help and involvement. We will send a thank you letter with our tax ID# for each donation.
